Thank you Lenovo! I am writing this on my amazingly beautiful Lenovo ThinkPad x201 super-portable laptop named INKPAD. Mark has an identical model, though his has a touchpad and mine only has a nipple pointer -- I love those.

Lenovo is Honorable
And Lenovo honored the 50% off coupons that they originally only offered for their x301 ThinkPad. They not only honored the 50% off coupon on the x201 ThinkPad but put no restrictions on what we could buy at 50% off and we maxed out these laptops completely: 8GB RAM, 128GB solid-state hard drive, a fingerprint-reader, a 9-cell battery, the fastest processor offered, a 2.67GHz Intel Core i7 CPU M 620 processor -- amazing!
Lenovo Has Been Awesome
I appreciate Lenovo’s patience. I have not been avoiding writing a follow-up but the timing sucked. I have been on the road for the last 4 weeks and I am, only now, able to blog. Mark from Lenovo’s social media customer service and corporate relations has been waiting nervously since he commented on my other blog since September 20th:
"Chris, Noted your update on Facebook- – Thanks for that! However, no indication of response and progress here? I agree the "Jury is still out" until we actually deliver the X201's but hopefully you can update this post and / or link to a follow up on the saga since Lenovo responded and you were able to reach an agreement. Thanks! Mark"
Well, sorry Mark. I didn’t want to really write a follow-up until I had the purchase in both of our hands. I wanted to write the follow-up post directly from the laptop because I was unwilling to believe it until I saw it. I hope there are no hard feelings. I was afraid and unfair and really I didn’t have any time to blog but I surely did tweet about it and posted a thank you on my Facebook!
Lenovo Did an Amazing Job
Lenovo Logo Lenovo Stepped Up and Completely Restored My Brand LoyaltyAfter complaining about our missing order and the lack of follow-through and attentiveness, Lenovo’s responsiveness was amazing. When they offered us the same 50% off on new x201 ThinkPads that they had offered with the 50% off promotion for x301 ThinkPads (a computer that was being discontinued), we completely took advantage and loaded the laptops up with everything we could: 8GB RAM, 128GB solid-state hard drives, the best processor and displace -- the works! And they didn’t flinch. Mark and I are Blissed Out with Our ThinkPad x201s! They were very classy about it and here’s the timeline:
Pitch a Fit and Have an Amazing Audience
I started pitching a fit in a big way on 17 September. On Twitter (@chrisabraham has 22,000 followers), on Facebook (facebook.com/chrisabraham has 4,800 friends), and especially on my top marketing and PR blog in the form of Will Lenovo Destroy My Fierce ThinkPad Brand Loyalty?
Lenovo is Watching Social Media
Well, the very same day, my CEO, Mark Harrison, received note from his EA, Priya, with this message:
"I got a call from Robby from Lenovo who mentioned having left a message on your cell and asking you to please call him back"
On the same day, Robby Hoopes, Inside Sales Representative, Lenovo US, contacted Mark and was able to sort out a solution:
"Lenovo follow up: honored the 50% coupon on a pair of x201 ThinkPads instead of the x301s they couldn’t source. Bravo for being classy!"
Awesome Pimped Out Executive Laptops
We spec’d top-of-the-line pimped out executive laptops with the works. Anything and everything. They didn’t flinch and Mark made the order of two from Robby and he shepherded the process and the order was in on September 27. On the 29th, Jeff Herman, Director Customer Delight, followed up with a Surveymonkey survey. On October 2, the laptops were shipped directly from China.
A Wee Little Bit of Extra Delivery Drama
In the meanwhile, I had moved so actually getting the UPS direct-from-China delivery was a terrifying event but all’s well that ends well, all I can say is many mahalos and thanks and appreciation to Sara Wilson for driving all over the place to chase down our drama-infused laptops.
Background of the Whole Drama: I pitched a fit about my issue ordering two Lenovo ThinkPad x301 laptops at 50% off based on a coupon my CEO received via Lenovo Direct on August 26. The order disappeared until I received a "LENOVO shipment confirmation" on September 16 with a link to a status page but no indication that nothing was being ordered so I checked up on why Mark and I didn’t have a laptop. I might have started tweeting about it. On September 16, I started pitching a fit. First on Twitter and then in my blog: Will Lenovo Destroy My Fierce ThinkPad Brand Loyalty?
A Couple Weeks with INKPAD the x201 ThinkPad
I have had my new Lenovo x201 ThinkPad for a couple weeks now and it is amazing. Lenovo honored Mark’s 50% off coupon in the end and we really took advantage and completely pimped the two-for-one 50% off laptops with all the best of all the best options: 8GB RAM, 128GB solid-state hard drive, a fingerprint-reader, a 9-cell battery, the fastest processor offered, a 2.67GHz Intel Core i7 CPU M 620 processor.
History of the Story
thinkpad Lenovo Stepped Up and Completely Restored My Brand LoyaltyMark and I have been running ThinkPads only since we left Apple Macintosh post System 7. Over a decade! We have had X-series and T-Series laptops and tablets and are devoted and the laptops last forever. My x61 ThinkPad is three years old and still pretty awesome!
About a month ago, I wrote Will Lenovo Destroy My Fierce ThinkPad Brand Loyalty? because the order that my CEO, Mark Harrison, made of two x301 laptops could not only not be sourced or delivered but because the order disappeared into a hard-to-find little line buried in the order that said, basically, "can’t continue the order, please call." That was super-lame.
When Mark finally called to check in, he was told that the promotional 50% off coupon for the x301 would not be honored if we were to order another laptop but that we could order two x201 ThinkPads at full price, which felt like a bait and switch operation, which really got Mark and me to see red and reconsider our decade-old single-minded and single-hearted devotion to the ThinkPad brand.
All’s Well That Ends Well: Thank You Lenovo!
In the end, all’s well that ends well. They really came through! While there was a little sadness but we still love you, Lenovo!
